Henry Ford Estate - Fair Lane

The Fords built their mansion, Fair Lane, in Dearborn, where they had both grown up. Henry Ford's passion for self-sufficiency led him to dam the adjacent Rouge River and build his own water-powered electric generators.

Henry Ford's elegant retreat was only a couple of miles upstream from his smoking, pulsating Rouge Plant. Pictured here are the library (left) and the main staircase (right).
