Hudson Motor Company was formed in Detroit in 1909 by Roy D. Chapin and Howard E. Coffin, former Oldsmobile engineers. J.L. Hudson, the Detroit department store owner, was a major investor. Post-war competition forced Hudson to merge with Nash as American Motors in 1954; the last Hudsons were produced in 1957.
