Howard Johnson's

This brochure for the Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from about 1962 shows the motel in the background and the restaurant, with its distinctive slanting orange roof, in the foreground. Travelers in this period came to depend on national chains like HoJo’s (as it was popularly known) as roadside businesses where they could eat and spend the night, certain of the quality no matter where they were. Note the brochure’s emphasis on this HoJo’s proximity to major highways.
