Claes Oldenburg (1929- ): Swedish-born American sculptor and major contributor to the Pop Art movement. He is noted for his use of everyday objects, found objects (items picked up on the street), public art (large sculptures displayed in public spaces), and soft art (representations of hard objects using pieces of fabric or canvas). Oldenburg unsettles viewers by making the small very large, the large very small, the mundane grand, and the hard soft.
